All!

Happy Thanksgiving!  I know you are receiving this in October but this is our only chance to wish you a Happy Thanksgiving before we enjoy turkey and pumpkin pie !

By now, you should all know that the venue for the Luncheon has been changed from Burton Manor to Laurel Park Manor,  39000 Schoolcraft Rd, Livonia, MI 48150.  There were several reasons for this last minute change, which would take a long time to explain here, but it was necessary.  I am attaching a new flyer.  If you can post it in your gathering area and/or get the venue change notification into your church newsletter, it would help a lot.

Christmas cards are here in the office, and ready for purchase.  If you want to offer them to your faith community, we can arrange that, or, if you can just get a notice in your faith communities newsletter or bulletin, that will be a great help.

We are all praying for an end to the fighting in Israel.  There are never any winners in this kind of conflict—only more anger and bitterness and loss of life. However you offer your prayers to the Lord of Life, please ask for peace.

Registrations for the 2024 March for Life in Washington DC are drawing to a close.  If you know of any high school or college aged young people who still want to go, have them call the LIFESPAN office, 248-561-6197 quickly!

You all have heard of the terrible provisions contained in the proposed Reproductive Health Act currently before our Michigan legislature.  To let your elected officials know how you feel please go to https://rtl.org/legislation/find-your-legislator  and find your state representatives.  Below you will find the wording of the email message Diane T. sent to her reps.  (You would, of course address it to your particular legislator).

Dear Mr. Webber,

I respectfully ask that you do not vote in favor of this measure.  It removes so many protections for women seeking an abortion that she is left without counsel or simple safety measures during the procedure.

Women deserve better!

It is really easy and quick to do

The measure was supposed to be voted on Tuesday, Oct 17, 2023.  Some parts of it were but the bill is still under discussion. Below I have reprinted the statement of one of our Michigan legislators in which she refers to the bill as “sausage making”.  My personal opinion is that the lives of unborn babies and the safety of their mothers do not resemble any kind of sausage I have ever seen!!!!!  Making such life and death decisions should NEVER be hurried!!!

“Ongoing strategy is still being discussed by leadership in both chambers, Sen. Sarah Anthony, D-Lansing, told reporters Tuesday.

“At the end of the day, a lot of this is just the sausage making,” Anthony said. “Making sure that we’re negotiating, that we get the language right, and that it aligns with the will of the people.

“But ultimately the big goal is to get something as quickly as possible to the governor’s desk without compromising our values and also compromising the will of the people.”

There are 16 bills total: 11 House bills, plus five Senate bills that are clones of House versions. If passed by both chambers and signed by supportive Gov. Gretchen Whitmer, bills would take effect Jan. 1, 2025.

Love Life!
