Hello, Pro-life Heroes
Our LIFESPAN office will continue to be open Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday from 10am-2pm or by appointment for the remainder of the winter. If you or a pro-lifer you know is a Bowler or Golfer, we are looking for volunteers to join our Bowling and Golf event fundraising committees. Both events are entering the planning stages for late summer. Youth volunteers are welcome too. Please call 734-422-6230 or e-mail our office at wcdr@rtl-lifespan.org or tpruse@milifespan.org to inquire about helping us to put on these exciting events.
The first ever Motor City Caravan for Life on Saturday, January 30 included more than 90 vehicles and paraded through Oakland and Wayne Counties right down Woodward Avenue. Our humble thanks to anyone who participated and gave witness to the right to life for the least of our brothers and sisters! A special thanks to Mark Cooper who drove in the caravan and donated the use of his digital display truck. A great turnout (the most people I’ve seen in a church since pre-pandemic days) witnessed and participated in the Rose Ceremony at Our Lady of Good Counsel on January 27. Thanks to all those who attended and participated by carrying roses in procession! Special thanks goes to Laurie and Ed Van Hoey for donating and delivering all the roses for the ceremony.
If you donated $30 or more to LIFESPAN Wayne County Chapter in 2020, you should have received an acknowledgement of our gratitude and tax receipt either by mail or e-mail by mid-February. We will continue to distribute the reusable LIFESPAN tote bags to all 2020 volunteers who have yet to receive one.
We will be ordering future supplies for Mother’s Day, Father’s Day, and 2021 Christmas Cards by the end of March. There will be several new Christmas Cards for 2021. Chocolate bars will again be offered on Father’s Day. For Mother’s Day, we will be switching gears and joining the Oakland-Macomb Chapter in offering lovely carnations rather than chocolate roses. This decision was made partially because suppliers are still trying to pass on left-over 2020 inventory and because a lot of chocolate roses go unclaimed and expire each year. Carnations are also lower cost and more desirable in my opinion. Additionally, spring flowers have a clear connection to new life. To help us determine the number of carnations to order, please contact our office by mid-March to place an estimate for how many flowers will be needed this year. Let’s hope the coming of Easter and continuing increase of the vaccinated population drives a surge of churchgoers returning to the pews.
“We won’t win this argument by yelling. We will win this argument by the strength of it…The Lord sets before us many choices. He asks us to take sides. May we side with life. May we side with beauty and peace and love and non-violence, including verbal non-violence.”
