Youth Outreach Oct 2020

Have you heard of our outreach program, Wee Care, which provides material help for precious babies? It is a place where families can turn in an emergency situation when their needs cannot be met by other organizations or public agencies. For over 26 years, our baby layettes are lovingly filled with clothing, warm blankets, diapers and other necessities to more than 600 families each year.

Wee Care was deemed “non-essential”, so we had to close our doors from mid-March until late June. It broke our hearts not to be able to help our moms and their little ones. We have since, cautiously (with masks and social distancing), reopened and are again providing for God’s tiniest miracles.

Unfortunately, when the world as we knew it came to an abrupt stop, so did our donations. Baby showers and Baby Bottle collections, understandably, were cancelled. Our babies, however, continue to be born to our teen moms, our jobless moms, our homeless moms and to all our moms in desperate situations. These special babies continue to bring love and hope to a frightened, anxious world. During this time, there are still the endless questions – will churches be open? Will members return? Will churches be able to survive financially? Will there be donation drives for Wee Care?

A church in Sterling Heights, came up with a creative way to collect baby item donations in a physically distanced way. They plan to have a three hour drop off period in the morning. During the drop off period, people will pull up outside the church. Donors do not need to exit vehicles because they have 10 young volunteers to unload the cars and transfer the donations to transport cars which will deliver the donations to our Wee Care Office. Right now, Wee Care’s greatest needs are baby onesies up to 9 months (short sleeve), baby sleepers up to 9 months, crib sheets, bath towels, and pacifiers.

Maybe hosting a donation drive like this is something your church could do too?
