Hello Pro-life Heroes,
As the summer heat begins to wane and children return to school, we wish you a great start to autumn! Beyond the annual rites of autumn, these next three months are going to be momentous for the future of the unborn in the State of Michigan. On November 8, the people of Michigan will either vote to maintain the current State Constitution and allow the citizens, State Legislature, and Governor to regulate, restrict, or even ban abortion in the future OR vote to amend the State Constitution to include an absolute right to abortion. If the citizens of Michigan vote for the latter, it will be much worse than under Roe. The amendment includes language that would invalidate many existing laws restricting or regulating abortion. Parental consent requirements for the abortions and sterilizations of minors will be invalidated. The ban on partial-birth abortions and other late-term abortion restrictions will disappear. Abortion facilities will be exempt from the basic health standards required of every other surgical facility in the State and the health regulations for abortion facilities will be determined only by the abortion industry itself. It will be legal for not only physicians, but any “health care professional” such as a nurse, nurse’s aide, dental hygienist, or counselor, to prescribe or perform abortions. Taxpayer funding will be used to pay for abortions through Medicaid. Conscience rights for nurses and doctors who refuse to assist in abortions will be eliminated and health care professionals will be placed in positions where they have to decide between upholding the moral truth and keeping their jobs. Michigan will not be able to regulate fetal trafficking or surrogacy anymore. Informed consent laws requiring 24-hour waiting periods and ultrasound viewing for mothers will be gone.
It will be vital that we convince many “moderate” pro-choicers to vote against this evil proposal. This is NOT about debating the rare cases of rape or the life of the mother. Someone who supports allowing abortion in the 1st trimester, but not in the 2nd trimester or for the full 9 months, must know they need to vote NO! (According to polls, at least 2/3 of Americans oppose 2nd-trimester abortion, and the vast majority of nations in the world with legalized abortion limit it to no later than the first 14 weeks.) Other pro-choicers may also be appalled to know their child could be taken for an abortion or sterilization by a school counselor or even a statutory rapist without their parental consent. They must vote NO! Those who honestly think abortion should be, “safe, rare, and legal,” must vote NO! This amendment would end all external health regulations on clinics and allow them to write their safety regulations. (Imagine the outcry if the State Constitution mandated that automakers were able to determine their own labor or environmental standards!) We must be willing to swallow our pride and focus on telling the general public these realities hidden in the legalese of the amendment language. We should never hide our pro-life views, but we can certainly agree to disagree on specific policies in the future with “moderate” pro-choicers through the democratic process and still find common cause to vote NO on this radical Anything Goes Abortion Amendment!!!
Yours in LIFE,
