Hi All,
No comments on the weather this month—it has been so cold and snowy that it needs no more publicity than the weathermen/women have been giving it!!
First—our volunteer luncheon date is Sat, March 24th at Joe Bologna’s (same place as last year). Invitations will be coming, but in the meantime, if someone, or more than one someones, has helped you this year, please let us know so we can invite them too.
Our dinner is coming up on May 8th, and that means we must work on our Resource Book. Every year when the book is completed I marvel at how informative it is. It takes a lot of time and people to make it so complete, but we get it done. We also need ads for this book, so we can afford to print it! Please check with the folks in your faith community offices and see if they have responded to the letters we have sent out. Also, please think really hard about any friends, relatives or neighbors who might have a business or belong to a club or organization that might want to take an ad. This is really very important and the success of the book depends on it.
Also, mark your calendar for the dinner. We are going to lighten the mood a little this year and have invited Jeff Allen, a family friendly comedian, to be our guest for the evening. (jeffallen.com). As usual, we will have a great dinner served up by San Marino and the Silent Auction and Tin Can Raffle will have someone going home with great items. The best item of the evening will be going to the winner of our Raffle. $50.00 per ticket will result in someone going home $7,000, or $2,000, or $1,000 richer than when they came!! We have tickets in the office and will be happy to mail them to you.
For planning purposes, I have a couple of questions to ask you. What kind of interest would you and/or folks in your faith community have in attending either a University of Michigan football game (with the opportunity to get onto the field through “the tunnel”, attending a baseball game at the Jimmy John’s field in Utica, or having a Whirly ball afternoon or evening in Utica. Check with your youth ministers and see what they say. We always looking for ways to involve more folks in our activities and these ideas were presented. There is also some interest in a bus trip to one of the Detroit Casinos. Check with your senior’s group and see what they say. We would really appreciate your feedback.
The bus trip to Washington DC was impacted by the government shut down in that they could not tour the White House and the schedule at Arlington was disrupted. However, our ever resourceful chaperones worked with Anne Marie Morin and found alternate activities for our group and the feedback that we have received indicates that the trip was a great success. Some of our young people encountered people attending the Women’s March and remarked on how angry and unhappy they seemed as compared to the positive energy from our young marchers.
If you need anything, please don’t hesitate to call us.
Love Life!
Diane, Lynn and Maria
