Hi Folks!
As I write this, we are expecting heavy rains, snow, ice and whatever else the weathermen have pulled out of their bag of tricks. We live in Michigan, we sometimes get terrible weather, we will survive!!
We certainly have a lot of things upcoming in the next few months. We all know that this is a special year for LIFESPAN—our 50th anniversary!! We have lots of things planned to mark this milestone. Of course there is our Celebrate Life! dinner on May 5th, with Diamond and Silk as our speakers. We will not be charging for this fundraising dinner, come, bring friends, enjoy Diamond and Silk and then, if you are able, make a donation to LIFESPAN so we can continue our work. We will have the Auction as usual so if you have items to donate, please call Chris or Karen at the main office, 734-524-0162. This is also a “raffle year” so a $50.00 raffle ticket could put $10,000 in your bank account. We are only selling 500 tickets so the odds are better than the lottery! We expect to have a great response to the dinner so don’t delay in reserving your spot!
February 28th and 29th will find Ryan Bomberger from the Radiance Foundation speaking to two youth sessions and one adult session, explaining how to be an effective pro-life activist. I have attached flyers about the event. Please be sure that your youth ministers get a copy. There are three flyers, each one slightly different-One specifically for the youth. One specifically for adults and one that combines them both.
Baby Showers come up on Sunday, March 8th. You should have received information about this from the main office. If you will be hosting a shower, please reply to Chris at the main office, 734-524-0162.
We are now taking reservations for the White Cross Display. By calling our cross scheduler, Cathy Abbott (248) 802-8767 (theabbotts@ameritech.net ) you can reserve the crosses for up to two weeks (if the second week you request is already taken by another group, you will only be able to have the display for one week). Reservations are on a first come first served basis except for the week-end of Life Chain Sunday, (this year October 4th) when the crosses will be at the National Shrine of the Little Flower at 12 Mile and Woodward.
LIFESPAN’s Representative Memos go to faith communities of all denominations. This item is being sponsored by the Catholic Bishops Council but would certainly be appropriate for all faiths. I offer it to you for your information. “Mothers in need are in all our faith communities and neighborhoods. In March 2020, the United States Council of Catholic Bishops will take up a new, nationwide effort called “Walking with Moms in Need: A Year of Service” (usccb.org/moms-in-need). Faith communities will be encouraged to assess, expand, and better communicate resources to pregnant moms and families in need. Learn more in this interview with Archbishop Naumann: www.bit.ly/wwmin-interview”
You will also find a flyer with information on our monthly book sale at Angels, Saints and Stuff in Livonia. I know it is a little distance from Oakland County, but the books are inexpensive and current. You can also drop off books you have enjoyed at the same location.
Sometime in the next two months we will be inviting you to our annual Volunteer Luncheon. The place we usual have it, Joe Bologna’s, has closed and we are searching for a new location.
Our Washington DC bound buses will be leaving the evening of January 23rd for the annual March and returning early Sunday morning, the 26th. Please pray for good weather—no snow, no ice, no rain!
A very heartfelt thank you to all of you who offered Christmas Cards to your faith communities. It was a difficult year, mostly because people are not sending as many cards as in previous years, but we had a modest success with this year’s offering.
We have lots more activities coming up, but this should be enough for now. As always, don’t hesitate to call with questions. 248-816-1546.
Love Life!
Diane, Lynn and Maria
