June 2017 – LIFESPAN Youth Mailing

To All Young People, Young Adults, Parents, Grandparents, Teachers, Campus Ministers, Youth Ministers, Directors of Religious Ed, Principals, Deacons, Priests and Pastors, Jr. High/High School/College Students for Life Groups, and anyone else receiving this who work with Young People…

I am making summer plans for my husband and I…looking forward to lots of bbq’s and visiting with family and friends!  What about all of you?  Any trips planned?  Any family arriving in town for a visit?  Any BBQ’s at your home?  Going on any picnics, bike rides, or mission trips?  How about attending any bridal and/or baby showers, weddings, pool parties and/or grad celebrations?

While we fill our summertime with many great things, there is much that continues to happen in the Pro-Life Movement each day.  I have included many links for you to click on if you want to learn more from some of the various pro-life sources.  See the links below.

It was a wonderful turnout for the LIFESPAN “Celebration of Life” Dinner in May!  Thanks to all of the parents, Jr. High and High School students, and college students/young adults, teachers and youth ministers who were able to make a reservation and attend the evening event!  Also, a HUGE THANKS goes out to the young people who helped in various ways that evening at the dinner!  We had the largest presence of young people ages 11-32 than ever before!  More parents attended too!  The overall comments I have heard are summed up to this – great evening, great speaker, great people to share the evening with!  Kristan Hawkins, the President of Students for Life of America, did a fantastic job with her presentation!  I told people ahead of time that she was highly energetic and passionate about Life.  She also has a terrific sense of humor!  These attributes were clearly seen and felt at the dinner!  Just so you can see some of the things the group has been a part of, I attached a report that I created from an email update that was sent to me by SFLA.  You can view more about the organization by going to their website: www.studentsforlife.org.

By the way, young people were surveyed after the dinner…those who returned their surveys suggested VP Pence, Tim Tebow, or Abby Johnson for a future dinner.  That would most certainly be really AWESOME!  If anyone has an “IN” with any of them and can get them to do a presentation for little cost to LIFESPAN (or would be willing to underwrite the cost to bring one of them here), we could then take a look at that for the future!

Plans are underway for the 2018 LIFESPAN “Movement in Motion” Youth Bus Trip to DC in January.  Dates are January 18-21 so you can mark your calendar!  Keep in mind…Summer jobs are always helpful to pay for the trip!  : ) Once I have an actual plan in place, I will get back in touch with you.  The Planning Team and I are working out some details for two different itineraries.  We will have a Plan A and a Plan B in case something in Plan A doesn’t work out.  And, we are also working on figuring out the total cost per person (not to exceed last year’s cost).  We will wear the LIFESPAN beanie hats again to identify our group.  If you joined us in 2017 on the trip and have your hat still, hang on to it!  Otherwise, you’ll need to purchase one for 2018.  It will be included in the bus trip cost.  We have four host churches arranged for our stay in the DC area after the March – First Baptist Church (Alexandria, VA), Queen of Apostles (VA), Jesus the Divine Word (MD), and St. Anthony’s Parish (MD) which is a new location for our group.  I am planning on 7 or 8 buses, so if you can tell me sooner than later that you are figuring on a large group to attend the March for Life with us, that would be helpful!

I have also attached our LIFESPAN Newsletter to this email.  I felt it was really important to show you a sample of the Newsletter because not all of you receive it in the mail.  That way you can see what LIFESPAN sends out through regular mail to many, many LIFESPAN members in the Metro Detroit area (and even beyond).  I encourage you to take a look at it and see all the good things inside! I think you will be glad you took the time to do so!  On the 2nd page, Maria Vitale, our office assistant, wrote a summary about an event that she and her sister went to representing LIFESPAN and on the last page, you will see some pictures of teen and young adult volunteers at our dinner, Kristan Hawkins, Board Member Mary C. and her husband, and even my husband and I are there (next to Kristan) for our “annual” picture when we are all dressed up!  LIFESPAN members pay $20.00 a year for students/seniors and $30.00 a year for adults/families and receive this Newsletter on a regular basis eight times a year. When there is an election, LIFESPAN has an additional publication called a Candidate Survey that is sent to members to help them when deciding who to vote for.  LIFESPAN doesn’t endorse candidates, but we can publish our survey of the candidates and how they respond to questions related to Pro-Life issues.  Several new members signed up with LIFESPAN after the dinner – students and families.  We are grateful for that!  If you are interested, please email me at oakmac@rtl-lifespan.org and put “New Membership” in the subject line.

If you have graduated from high school or college and no longer wish to receive our Youth Mailings, please let us know.  We will take you off our email database.

If you are receiving this email more than once, please let us know.  You may be on two different email lists or we have two or more email addresses for you.  We appreciate it if you would send us an email with the correct email address you want us to use.  Maria and I are working on cleaning up the email database so that no one gets multiple emails, but we haven’t tweeked it totally yet.  Thanks for helping us get our records straightened out!

That’s all for now!

Have a great rest of the month!  I will talk to you again after July 4th!

Your friend for Life!
